Ladies, I'm asking that you do all of us women a favor and join the Army of Women; a movement aimed at eradicating breast cancer. I have joined and I'm eager for my turn to help.
This joint effort, between scientists and women around the country, was started by Dr. Susan Love. According to her interview with Brian Williams on The Nightly News, 70 percent of women who are diagnosed have none of the risk factors associated with breast cancer; this includes a family history of the disease. That means it could happen to any one of us. This really struck me and was my reason for joining. They are looking for healthy women of all ages, cultures, and sizes. The intent is to compare women without breast cancer to women who have breast cancer.
As part of the army, you may be called upon to be a subject in one of their research programs. This can be as simple as filling out a questionnaire or as involved as giving samples of saliva, blood, or breast tissue. I'm not one to speak out about things, but for some reason I am pretty passionate about this. I urge you to become passionate about this issue also and join the army! You can become an Army of Women member by signing up at this site: http://mailing.armyofwomen.org/rd/9z1zo7lk1iqad5j5fckdka71ghb6h0pugvvhfvrrqb8.
Even if you are not interested in joining, please help spread the word. The mission for Dr. Love is not simply to find a cure for breast cancer, but to find a way to stop breast cancer. Thank you for taking the time to read this post!
